Demolition Derby

Eat your heart out, Jimi Hendrix – GIGS kids love to smash guitars too. Sean Gaiser has run the lower school music education program at Mater Dei since 2007. He created the Demolition Derby to encourage good behavior in music class all year long. Each week, the best behaved kids are awarded a star for the Demolition Derby chart. When June comes around, every student’s name is entered into the Demolition Derby lottery for each good behavior star he received throughout the year. Students get decked out in their best rockstar gear for the big event, and the lucky winning names get to smash guitars that have seen better days and are no longer suitable for lessons. Using turntables and vintage vinyl, fellow GIGS students DJ the event with a classic rock soundtrack as they cheer on the smashers.
